This Privacy Policy explains how AstroIQ ("AstroIQ", "the app", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and discloses your information when you use the AstroIQ mobile application. AstroIQ is operated by Davide Mancini (ABN 40 426 287 852), a sole trader based in Western Australia.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

By downloading or using AstroIQ, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

1. About AstroIQ

AstroIQ is an astrophotography session-planning tool. It helps you assess night-sky conditions (such as moon phase, sky darkness, atmospheric transparency, and weather), plan deep-sky imaging targets, and manage your equipment setups. AstroIQ is designed for personal use and does not include community, social, or user-to-user sharing features.

2. Information We Collect

We aim to collect as little personal information as possible. The information AstroIQ handles includes:

2.1 Location Information

AstroIQ uses your device's GPS location (with your permission) to:

  • calculate sky quality, darkness, moon position, and astronomical timing for your location;
  • retrieve local weather and cloud forecasts;
  • show relevant deep-sky targets for your latitude.

You may also enter or adjust an observing location manually. Your location is used to provide the app's core functionality and is stored locally on your device. AstroIQ does not require you to create an account, and your location is not linked to an identity by us.

2.2 Equipment and Setup Information

Information you enter about your equipment (for example telescope focal length, aperture, camera model, and named setups) is stored locally on your device to power framing and field-of-view calculations. This information is not personal information and is not transmitted to us.

2.3 Photos You Add

If you attach a photo to a target within the app, that image is stored locally on your device (in the app's on-device storage). AstroIQ does not upload, collect, or transmit your photos to us or any third party.

2.4 Subscription Information

If you purchase a subscription, the transaction is processed and managed entirely by Apple through the App Store and your Apple ID. AstroIQ does not collect or store your payment card details. We may receive limited, non-identifying information from Apple confirming subscription status (for example, whether a subscription is active) so the app can unlock premium features. Apple's handling of your payment information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

2.5 Device and Diagnostic Information

The app may process basic technical information (such as device type, operating system version, and app performance data) to operate reliably and diagnose problems. Where this is collected, it is used only to maintain and improve the app.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • provide AstroIQ's core planning and calculation features;
  • retrieve weather and forecast data relevant to your location;
  • deliver and manage premium subscription features;
  • maintain, secure, and improve the app.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Third-Party Services

AstroIQ relies on a small number of third-party services to function:

  • Open-Meteo — provides weather and forecast data. When AstroIQ requests a forecast, your approximate coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to return conditions for that location. Please refer to Open-Meteo's terms and privacy information for how they handle requests.
  • Apple App Store — processes and manages all subscriptions and payments. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

AstroIQ does not use Google Maps, Google Places, or any Google location service. Location is obtained only from your device's GPS (with your permission).

Aside from the coordinates sent to Open-Meteo to obtain a forecast, AstroIQ does not disclose your personal information to third parties, except where required by law.

5. Data Storage and Security

Most of your information — including your location, equipment setups, preferences, and any photos you add — is stored locally on your device rather than on our servers. We take reasonable steps to protect information handled by the app from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If you delete the app, locally stored data is removed with it.

6. Disclosure of Information

We may disclose your information only:

  • to the third-party services listed in Section 4, strictly to provide the app's functionality;
  • where required or authorised by law, or to protect our legal rights.

We do not otherwise share, rent, or sell your personal information.

7. Children's Privacy

AstroIQ is not directed at children under 16 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

8. Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

  • request access to any personal information we hold about you;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • make a complaint about how we handle your personal information.

Because AstroIQ stores most data locally on your device and does not require an account, in most cases you can access, correct, or delete your information directly within the app or by removing the app. For any request, contact us at the email below.

9. Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first at iqappaustralia@gmail.com and we will endeavour to resolve it.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, communicated within the app. Your continued use of AstroIQ after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
